LED & Induction Lighting

Lightening your carbon footprint is getting easier and easier with the introduction of new light technologies. A significant reduction in energy can be realized by simply updating your current fixtures with LEDs (light emitting diodes), Induction lights or CFLs (compact fluorescent lights).

LEDs quietly illuminate with the closest look of natural daylight while emitting very little heat. Their “light span” is approximately 80,000 hours, which is about 10 years for commercial usage and 25 years for residential applications. LEDs not only dramatically reduce energy consumption, but they are completely recyclable and do not contain hazardous mercury or fragile glass casings like ordinary fluorescent bulbs.

Induction lighting is another energy efficient and eco-friendly option. These bulbs provide much higher level of luminous efficacy (lumen/watt) because of scotopic factors: high color temperature combined with high color rendering index. The result is a brighter, cleaner light that is achieved using less energy than other higher-wattage lamps. Induction light span is approximately 100,000 hours and reduces levels of mercury by 96% over traditional fluorescents.

CFLs are typically used to replace incandescent bulbs/fixtures. While still in the fluorescent family, CFLs use approximately 1/3 the power of incandescents and have a much longer rated life. A CFL can save over $30 in electricity costs over a lamp’s lifetime compared to incandescent lamps and save 2,000 times its own weight in greenhouse gases. Another added benefit, there is no warm-up time for a CFL.
